DEAN (Digital Euro Access Number)
The unique account number identifying an end user’s beta digital euro account. During the pilot it reflects the beta digital euro’s own nature, not the digital euro Regulation’s eventual definition.
Key facts (FUR.03–FUR.07)
- Requested by a pilot-psp from the desp; DESP generates it and returns it to the requesting PSP, which then assigns it to the end user.
- PSP- and country-agnostic — independent of which PSP requested it, doesn’t encode country identification.
- Format: 18 alphanumeric characters —
EUprefix (2 chars) + 2 check digits (ISO/IEC 7064 MOD 97-10) + 14-digit BEAN (Basic European Account Number).
Used by
- alias maps a phone number to a DEAN (one-to-one).
- P2P/P2B payments can target a DEAN directly (see online-and-offline-payments).
- Business end users get a DEAN too but cannot use an alias.
